Avalon Technologies is an electronics manufacturing services company that builds mission-critical complex box-build systems for industrial, mobility, rail, aerospace, clean energy and communications customers, with manufacturing in India and the U.S. In FY26, its order book stood at INR2,196 crore, up 24.7% year-on-year, plus INR1,245 crore of longer-dated contracts, giving total visibility of INR3,441 crore. The business is not a commodity scale assembler: box-build content has risen from 44% of revenue four years ago to 56% in Q4 FY26, and the top ten customers represent 61% of revenue, an indicator of deep, long-tenured relationships. India manufacturing, which made up 77% of Q4 FY26 revenue, earned EBITDA margin of 16.7% and PAT margin of 12.2%, while U.S. manufacturing still lost about INR5 crore at PAT in Q4, narrowing from INR14 crore two years earlier. The blended FY26 EBITDA margin was 10.8% because of the U.S. drag, revealing a quality core in India that is currently diluted by investment-stage U.S. ramp.

The economics persist because of qualification cycles and switching costs. Product life cycles run 8-10 years, and once programs enter production they typically remain for that duration. Several dated milestones support this: locomotive engine subsystems have commenced production, Kavach anti-collision system testing is complete with commercial production expected in the second half of FY27, aerospace cabin subassemblies passed first practical inspection and are moving toward volume production in the first half of calendar 2026, satellite communication control unit prototypes are done with volume orders expected from FY27, and the semiconductor equipment program should contribute meaningfully in FY27. Energy storage systems continue to ramp as planned. By 18-24 months from now, these new programs should be in steady production, the India manufacturing base will have absorbed the Phase 2 Chennai expansion, and U.S. manufacturing is targeted to reach breakeven in the later part of FY27, lifting consolidated margins.

Management has a track record of under-promising and over-delivering. On the May 2025 call it guided FY26 revenue growth of 18-20%; it raised that to 23-25% in August, 28-30% in November, and ~40% in February 2026, and full-year 9M numbers showed 48.7% growth. Gross margin guidance of 33-35% was consistently met, with FY26 at 34.3%. Working capital guidance of 120-130 days by March 2026 was beaten early: 118 days by December 2025 and 112 days by March 2026. Cash flow from operations improved to INR57 crore in FY26 from INR25 crore in FY25. The one repeated commitment still in progress is U.S. profitability, but losses narrowed from INR14 crore to INR7 crore to about INR5 crore across the last several quarters. Capital allocation remains disciplined: capex of INR50-60 crore annually, asset turns maintained above 8, and ROCE improved to 20.6% from 15.7% a year earlier. The FY27 guidance of 24-27% growth is more conservative than the pace just delivered, suggesting room to repeat the beat.

The earnings path is visible because revenue growth is already booked in an order book with a 14-month average execution period, and margin expansion comes from operating leverage as the U.S. business moves from loss to breakeven in later FY27. If India maintains 16.7% EBITDA margin and U.S. reaches breakeven, consolidated EBITDA margin should move from 10.8% toward the mid-teens as revenue scales. The main falsifier is customer-controlled program cut-in timing, which can shift a quarter, plus the semiconductor equipment approvals, which are only 50-60% complete and gate volume ramp. A second watchpoint is tariff policy, though the company passed through 99% of tariff costs and the current 18% U.S. tariff on India exports is manageable. There is a tension between low headline EBITDA margin and high PAT growth, but it is operational, not structural: gross margin holds at 34.3%, working capital is improving, and the loss-making U.S. plant is shrinking.
